| Often seen on booksets.com listings, what does the phrase,"EXTRACT" mean ? |
| Quite simply it is an original article or paper which has been removed from a larger collection, such as an annual literary volume, or a scientific periodical, or similar publication. It will not usually have a separate title page, though sometimes they are present, and will probably not be bound. If it is bound, we will mention it in our description. For the typical collector or enthusiast they often present the only means of obtaining an otherwise tricky to find piece. Whilst purists may turn their noses up at the mere suggestion, for the genuine seeker of information the "EXTRACT" provides invaluable content and information at a very affordable price. This is very different from "OFFPRINTS" which are effectively the first form of a publication and usually command great premiums over the fully published work. |
